2016 National Tribal Public Health Summit

All persons attending any component of the NIHB National Tribal Public Health Summit must register for the Summit. Presenters and exhibitors arenot exempt from registration and registration fees.
Summit registration is ONLY for those who wish to attend the Summit activities. There are no partial or event-specific registrations available for the Summit. So persons only able to attend a portion of the Summit must still register and pay the entire fee amount.
A single registration will provide the following to a single person: one Summit packet, admittance to all Summit activities (including the opening reception, plenary sessions, local host activities, exhibit hall and marketplace, Summit breakout sessions), and namebadge.
NIHB utilizes an online registration process, and will process payments for registration fees online as well. NIHB will also accepted mailed checks for registration fees. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH OR FAX COPIES OF CHECKS FOR REGISTRATION. NIHB will not invoice for registration and Purchase Orders will not be accepted in lieu of payment.
It is important to respond to all questions in the registration form in order to expedite the registration and confirmation process. Please know how you are going to pay for the registration fees before beginning the registration form.

This year the conference will celebrate its 37th year on February 26, 2016 at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The 2016 theme is “In Solidarity: The Role of Public Health in Social Justice” and will explore the intersection of public health and social justice work. The conference will highlight opportunities for public health researchers and practitioners and social justice advocates to learn from each other to identify best practices for prioritizing minority health and fostering inclusive strategies for change. The theme of the meeting is Creating the Healthiest Nation: Ensuring the Right to Health. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on the theme and current and emerging public health issues.
Abstract Notification — Presenters will be notified via email of abstract status on Wed. June 1, 2016. Please make sure your email address is correct and up-to-date.
Registration and Membership — You do not have to be an APHA member to submit an abstract. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenting author MUST become an APHA Individual member and MUST register for the Annual Meeting by the pre-registration deadline (membership does not apply to Faculty of APHA Learning Institutes or Speakers of invited sessions).
Author Disclaimer — Opinions expressed by a speaker represent only the opinions of the speaker and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the American Public Health Association.
Penalties — Presenters who fail to show up for their scheduled presentations without notifying the program planner of cancellation will not be permitted to present papers or posters at any APHA-sponsored meeting for two years following the "no-show."

Increasing Access to Care and Improving Health Outcomes: A Spotlight on AA&NHOPI-serving Community Health Centers

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders (AA&NHOPIs) are the fastest growing racial/ethnic group in the United States and are highly diverse in their language and health needs, representing more than 50 ethnic groups and 100 languages. Nearly one million AA&NHOPIs receive care at federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), a 118% increase between 2005-2014. FQHCs provide high quality, culturally and linguistically appropriate comprehensive primary care to these and other medically underserved communities, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Because of their multi-disciplinary approach to care that addresses both clinical and non-clinical health including social risk factors, health centers play a major role in addressing racial and ethnic health disparities.
Join us for this interactive session to learn more about the role of FQHCs in reducing health disparities among AA&NHOPIs and promoting health equity. Presenters will share key findings from AAPCHO’s recently released report entitled, “Spotlight: The Health of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders Served at Federally Qualified Health Centers.” This webinar will provide participants with:
1. An overview of the current patient demographics, health utilization trends and patient health outcomes at AA&NHOPI-serving FQHCs;
2. Highlights of the key differences between AA&NHOPI-serving FQHCs and other FQHCs across the country; and
3. A discussion of the implications of the key findings report and opportunities to improve AA&NHOPI health.

The NIMH supports biomedical researchers from high school through college, early career investigator and senior investigator levels. Increasing knowledge and capacity to apply for research funding will result in increased ability of investigators to successfully lead research projects resulting in improved capacity for mental health research.
